Using these approaches, she works with couples, families, adolescents, and adults. Shauna specializes in individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy. She utilizes discernment counseling, EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy), and Pragmatic Experiential Therapy for couples.

Discernment Counseling

Shauna is trained in providing discernment counseling for couples. Discernment counseling is a method available to ambivalent couples that have gotten to a point where one or both partners are considering a divorce/separation.

During marital or relationship distress, it is not uncommon for couples to struggle with decisions about the trajectory of their future. It is designed to help partners gain clarity in a decision, based on a better understanding of how they got to the point where divorce or separation is a real possibility.

The goal of discernment counseling is to help couples gain a greater clarity and confidence in their decision-making. Shauna believes that ambiguity can be a painful place, and that finding clarity can reduce distress significantly, despite the decision made

Shauna is a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. She received her Bachelor of Science in Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota and her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of St Mary's.
