Laura Mortenson

LICSW

Laura is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and has spent nearly two decades providing guidance and support to individuals dealing with the many different types of grief and loss. She has an expansive understanding of the surprising and often unacknowledged ways each one of us is touched by grief and loss as we journey through our lives, and she is keenly aware of how various types of losses, such as ambiguous loss, disenfranchised loss, and traumatic loss can at times feel overwhelming and isolating. She has a strong interest in hearing each person tell their own story and firmly believes that each individual comes in as the expert in their own life and has the potential to learn and incorporate skills that will allow them to work through challenges in a healthy and productive way.

In addition to Grief and Loss, Laura works with those struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, as well as those navigating challenging life circumstances and interpersonal relationships. Laura uses a client centered and strength-based approach, meeting clients where they are at, utilizing therapeutic modalities that best fit each client such as; narrative therapy, mindfulness, DBT and CBT skills.

Laura graduated from Wheaton College with a BA in Literature and received her MSW from College of St Catherine/University of St Thomas.

Laura grew up with a love of books and music and to this day, she is often struck by the way that both of these mediums speak to deep parts of us and offer insight and universality to what it means to be human. When she is not at work, she loves walks and has recently fallen in love with various podcasts that cause her to ponder, laugh, and sometimes cry. She enjoys road trips and new adventures and also a cup of coffee with a couple of good friends. She has lived in MN pretty much her whole life and she loves it here, going “Up North” whenever possible to enjoy a quiet retreat.
